General questions about appointments at the Capital Eye:

How long will my appointment take?

Most appointments require more than just a visit to your ophthalmologist. We may require further tests and protocols to maintain a high level of patient care. Please be patient when visiting our office and routinely expect to spend 1 to 2 hours with us.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.  You will need to bring and show a photo ID, all of your insurance cards, a referral from your primary care if required, any payment or co-payment required and a list of any current medications you use.  Be sure to bring any glasses or contact lenses you are currently wearing.

What's the appointment waiting time for new referral patients?

For non-urgent and depending on the ophthalmologist being seen you can expect to wait anywhere from a few days to a month.

When do I book my next appointment?

The ophthalmologist will let you know when you need to be seen again. All appointments should be booked before leaving our office with the front desk staff. Otherwise, you can call to make an appointment.

If I miss my appointment, will I have to pay for it?

Yes, there will be a $25 fee for any missed appointments not given a 24 hour notice. It is important to keep your appointments with our doctors for the best care for your eyes.

General questions on visiting our office:

Will my eyes need to be dilated with drops?

Depending on the type of visit or the reason for your visit, all routine examinations include dilating drops.  This is necessary in order for our doctors to view the optical nerve and retina.

How long will the drops dilate my pupils?

Depending on the drops, your pupils will be dilated from 4-6 hours for general dilation drops.

Are there any side effects from the dilating drops?

Common effects from the dilation drops are blurred vision and light sensitivity. Please make us aware of any known allergies.  If you have sunglasses it is advised to bring them with you to help with light sensitivity.

What other tests may be performed during my visit?

Fundus photos, Visual Fields, OCT, Pentacam and any other necessary tests your doctor feels are necessary to detect and assist in the health of your eyes.  Any test requested will be discussed with you prior to performing and the results will also be shared with you and your other healthcare providers you have requested.  Not all tests are performed on the same day of your visit, some require additional appointments and follow up appointments.

General questions on eye vision, visual aids and treatment:

Where can I purchase my glasses or contact lenses?

Our office has a full service eyeglass boutique with many budget and fashion options available to meet your needs.  We also offer the option for you to purchase contact lenses directly from our office.  We must inform you that if you should choose to purchase these items from other vendors, we can not assume any responsibility for accuracy from their labs, or service on any frames or lenses.

What should I do if I lost my prescription for glasses or drops?
You can call our office and one of our technicians will review your chart and assist you in the coordination of obtaining a replacement. Please be patient as our technicians must handle calls in the order received and Emergency calls are a priority.

What should I do if I run out of drops?
If you have a refill on the medication you can call your pharmacy for a refill. If there are no refills left then you will need to contact our office.  You may need to be seen in order to refill the medication, the technician will return your call and let you know if we will call or fax the prescription directly to the pharmacy if approved by your ophthalmologist.  Not all medications will be refilled if you have not been seen by our doctor as required.

What should I do if I need a form completed by my Doctor?
Please bring the form into our office on your next appointment, or you may drop it off.  Forms are not completed on the same day in most cases.  Please allow at least 10 days for completion prior to calling or stopping back in to our office.  If it has been greater then 10 days please contact our office for the status of your request.

What should I know about my Lasik Evaluation?

The Lasik Evaluation is a very comprehensive examination.  You should plan on being at our office at least 2 hours.  If you are a current contact lenses wearer you will need to make sure you have been out of your contact lenses at least 2 weeks prior to your evaluation at our office.  Our Lasik Coordinator can speak with you if you have specific questions, our doctors will review and discuss your refractive options with you and our Lasik Coordinator can assist you with scheduling your procedure and financial assistance.
